Brooks Bardin Patton
Born June 6, 1981, Santa Cruz, California
Portrait written by his mother.
Brooks was born one week before his mom’s law school graduation, and he attended with his Dad and Nana and Papa (Alma and Phil). He was a delightful baby and child, even letting his parents play tennis when he was six months old sleeping in his basket on the sidelines.
As he grew up, Brooks developed interests in, among other things, cooking, golf, video games and personal computing, the latter having just come into the realm of everyday usage. He was on the Harbor High School varsity golf team and was able to beat his dad on a regular basis.
In college he majored in Anthropology and minored in Computer Information Technology. After college he worked in tech support for the Cabrillo College library, the Santa Cruz County Office of Education and the Superior Court before being hired as a contractor doing Systems Administrations work at the NASA Advanced Supercomputing Center for 8 years.
During this time Brooks was part of a tournament pool league where he met his future wife, Leanne Cheung. They shared many interests including biking, photography, gaming and computing (Leanne also works in the tech industry). They were married in 2015 at Wildwood (Phil and Alma would have been so pleased!).
After working in the Bay Area for many years, Brooks and Leanne took a summer off to attend a “boot camp” in Boulder, Colorado to hone their tech skills. After completion, they were immediately hired by companies in Denver where they moved and have been living ever since. They have recently adopted a kitten named Xilbe.
